Citra 1920 has proven to be a stable emulator to use for Pokemon Y. If you wish to use another emulator, you are free to try, but I offer no guarantees regarding functionality.
If you believe that you have been able to run the game with no issues through another emulator (Azahar, etc), please let the community know through the Discord Server, and we'll begin the process of running additional tests.
- If you do not have a ROM for Pokemon Y, you must obtain one before you can play Y Nouveau.
- As far as I am aware, the Lumiose Save Glitch is still present within the game. Until testing has been done, do not save within the streets of Lumiose City - always make sure to save inside one of the builds or on another route.
- This game will not work for non-English versions.
Installing Y Nouveau with Citra
- Download the YN Mod Files by clicking the Download button for the latest version of Y Nouveau above.
- Contained within:
- Folder - Mod Files
- romfs
- code.bin
- Application - PKHeX for YN
- If this is your first time using Citra, see the Setting Up Citra page.
- Right click Pokemon Y in your Games List, and select Open Mods Location.
- Double check that the folder you are in is named 0004000000055E00. This is the title code for Pokemon Y. If your folder doesn't match this, you've opened the mods folder for the wrong game.
- Delete all files in the folder.
- Copy and paste only the following files into the folder. These are located within the Mod Files folder.
- romfs
- code.bin
Y Nouveau should now be installed! Launch Pokemon Y from your Citra Games List. If you see the Y Nouveau title screen, the installation was a success!
Due to an unknown bug with the ORAS Mega Pokemon models on native 3DS hardware, the models have unfortunately been disabled. Mega Pokemon still function in their entirety - the only difference is that there will not be a new model for the Pokemon when it mega evolves, and they will visually remain the same as their base form.
Luma3DS is a custom firmware for the 3DS, allowing you to play Y Nouveau directly on your native device without the use of an emulator.
- Download the YN Mod Files by clicking the Download button for the latest version of Y Nouveau above.
- Contained within:
- Folder - Mod Files
- romfs
- code.bin
- Application - PKHeX for YN
- In your 3DS, be sure to delete any update patches.
- To find any existing update patches, open the System Settings App → Data Management → Nintendo 3DS → Downloadable Content.
- If it exists, select Pokemon Y and delete any update data.
- Ensure that the following path exists on your 3DS SD card: luma/titles/0004000000055E00/. If either the titles or 0004000000055E00 folders do not exist, create them.
- Navigate into the luma/titles/0004000000055E00/ folder.
- Delete all files in the folder.
- Copy and paste only the following files into the folder. These are located within the Mod Files folder.
- romfs
- code.bin
- Navigate inside the romfs/a/0/0/ folder, and delete the file marked 7.
- Reinsert your SD card into your 3DS and power on your 3DS while holding Select. This should bring you to the Luma3DS boot screen.
- Toggle on Enable game patching in the Luma3DS settings, then click Start to save.
Y Nouveau should now be installed! Launch Pokemon Y from your 3DS Home Screen. If you see the Y Nouveau title screen, the installation was a success!
While I am not offering the Citra for Android executable, you can find it through other sources. Just be careful where you get it from!
Visual Guide
Step by Step Guide
- Download the YN Mod Files by clicking the Download button for the latest version of Y Nouveau above.

- Folder - Mod Files
- romfs
- code.bin
- Application - PKHeX for YN
- Ensure that the following path exists in your Citra directory: citra-emu/load/Mods/0004000000055E00/. If any of the load, Mods or 0004000000055E00 folders do not exist, create them.
- Download Citra 1920 by clicking the Download Citra button above.
- Extract the contents of the Citra 1920.zip to the folder of your choice.
- To open Citra, double-click on citra-qt.exe, not citra.exe.
- Add a new folder to the game list by double-clicking in the central area of Citra.
- The folder you're looking for should be one containing .3ds files, of which your Pokemon Y ROM should be one of them.
Note: Citra has been pre-setup to be in standalone mode. This will keep all Citra settings contained within the Citra folder, allowing for easy removal, as opposed to Citra's default, which puts your user settings into your default settings storage for your Operating System. To disable this, delete the user folder.
That's the bare minimum required to get Citra set up and running unmodded Pokemon Y!
Common Citra Convience Settings
Dark Mode
- Go to Emulation → Configure → General → UI → Theme.
- Set your Theme to Dark or Midnight Blue.
Emulation Speed
Default Speed
- Go to Emulation → Configure → General → General → Emulation Speed.
Toggled Speed
- Start your Pokemon Y ROM by double-clicking on it in the Citra Game List.
- While the game is open, go to Emulation → Configure Current Game → General.
- Change Use global emulation speed to Set emulation speed.
- Set this value to your desired amount.
- Close out of the current configuration menu.
- Go to Emulation → Configure → Controls → Hotkeys.
- Bind the Toggle Per-Game Speed option to your desired key combination.
Now while you're in-game, pressing that key combination should toggle between the two emulation speeds you've set.
Resolution Upscaling
- Citra is a CPU/GPU intensive program. If your computer specs are on the lower end, this option may cause Citra to slow down.
- When you adjust your Internal Resolution, you can choose whatever value you'd like, but I've found that values over 5x are overkill and more likely to tax your system for little visual improvement.
- Go to Emulation → Configure → Graphics → Internal Resolution.
- Increase the resolution to your desired amount.
Remove Game Outlines
This will cause your game to look more like modern Pokemon, where Pokemon and Characters no longer have black outline textures around them.
I have no idea if this works right now.
- Start your Pokemon Y ROM by double-clicking on it in the Citra Game List.
- While the game is open, go to Emulation → Configure Current Game → Cheats.
- Click Add Cheat.
- Name it whatever you'd like.
- Enter the following code in the Code section.
D3000000 00000000
00361D34 00000000
00361D38 00000000
D2000000 00000000
